I came across this picture on the msn page. The picture is from a series of snapshots covering the Syrian crisis as the number of refugees hit one million last Wednesday according to UNHCR. It is very difficult to imagine that this could be the fate of one of our own kids, and we simply cannot do anything and are not doing anything to help.

As I look at the picture, I look at how the Syrian crisis and many other humanitarian crises are being dealt with by the rest of the world. I turn to the news channels and what I hear and listen to is very sad and depressing. According to the “international community” that is just gazing at this crisis from far, if there was evidence of the use of chemical weapons, then there will be serious intervention. The way I conclude this statement is that people are allowed to die in any brutal way in front of everyone and there might be intervention only if chemical weapons will be used!

And like everyone else we end up looking at this crisis and many others, and start turning the pages from one crisis to the next with the same passive reaction. Refugees everywhere, poor camps, brutal weather conditions, diseases, difficult living circumstances and much more.

Everything this young boy and everyone surrounding him is asking for is to live like every human being with dignity. The more I look at this picture, the more I realize that it is not the world that is watching the crisis, but this young boy looking at the rest of the world and telling us do I deserve this life and is this everything you can do, just stare at my picture!
